What is Microneedling & What it Isn’t

Microneedling...

So many questions and so many reservations. The thought of having needles put into your skin along with the photos and videos of aggressive needling with blood running down the face has made many people question if they would ever have this truly amazing treatment.

Let’s educate you on what microneedling is and what it is not, and more importantly why it’s one of the best treatment choices for long term healthy younger skin.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling or collagen induction therapy as it is also known as is the controlled use of tiny (micro) needles placed into to the skin. Along with expert knowledge, specialist techniques and the correct timing the desired result is to trigger the production of growth factors to build new healthy collagen.

The stimulation provided by this treatment is considered far more effective than many other more invasive treatments such as various forms of lasers and harsh skin peels. It is a quick & easy technique with minimal downtime.

After a course of treatments your skin is visibly revitalised, rejuvenated, replenished and regenerated.

What it is not...

Today on social media we have image after image of highly aggressive needling with blood running down the face and whilst some therapist's may choose to carry out their procedure in this way, the principle of more is better is not the truth when it comes to skin and a safe depth and protocol will be followed depending on the skin we are treating.

Rest assured that this image painted above in my opinion is unnecessary to get the results that are possible and can in fact in many cases build scar tissue rather than healthy collagen.

Who is it suitable for?

Microneedling is a safe and amazing treatment for many skin conditions. The power of this treatment and in fact skincare in general is the knowledge of the therapist behind it.

Provided it is carried out at the right time, the right depth and with the right ingredients we find that clients with the following skin issues see best results:

  • Acne / Scarring
  • Enlarged Pores/ Congestion
  • Rosacea (client depending)
  • Lines & Wrinkles
  • Dull/ Lackluster skin

This list is not limited to those mentioned above but recommended on an individual basis.

What Results can I expect?

Results will depend on the skin we are treating. A course of microneedling will most definitely lead to a smoother, healthier and younger looking skin.

Another  big question we get asked is how many treatments I will need. That really will depend on the skin we are treating and the results you’re looking to achieve, however a course of three procedures (minimum) is recommended for any treatment programme.

Warning! Don't run before you can walk

The health of the skin prior to microneedling is key. It’s why we don’t offer it to new clients. We describe microneedling like running a marathon. Preparation is key to success and we treat the skin in the same why.

We recommend a minimum of 2-3 Performance Skin Treatments, a skin health homecare regime using Dermaviduals and possibly some internal supplements to support and maximise your skin results.

A skin that is healthier will heal and respond best to micro needling. A whim notion or one off treatment is both dangerous and money wasted in my opinion.

If you’re going to invest in your skin then preparation is key to getting the best results possible from this amazing treatment.
